about

BloodLust! is pleased to announce the release of the first three recordings in a new analog synth initiative from Mark Solotroff. “Spatial Settlement Patterns,” “Psychological Mobility,” and “Vantage Points” are out now, via iTunes, Bandcamp, Amazon, Google Play and Spotify, and in a limited edition of audio cassettes.

Solotroff views these recordings as possible soundtracks for movement through metropolitan terrains, whether by foot, bike, car, or public transportation. An evolution from his overloaded wall-of-synth-noise Super Eight Loop recordings, which began in New York as soundtracks for walking through a pre-sterilization Times Square, these new recordings are far more nuanced and dynamic. Notably, they are meant to be listened to at a more moderate volume – allowing city sounds to blend into the music – and so as not to drown out voices, traffic, construction and other day-to-day urban sounds.

Solotroff may be better known as the vocalist of the doom metal band Anatomy of Habit (Relapse Records) and the heavy electronics band BLOODYMINDED (BloodLust!), but he has a 30+ year history playing analog synthesizer. His synth work has been at the core of his bands BLOODYMINDED (1995-present) and Intrinsic Action (1984-1995), he has recorded and released 100 hours of lo-fi analog synth music under the name Super Eight Loop, he plays synth and guitar in the duo The Fortieth Day and he is part of the occasional dark synth trio Nightmares.

Solotroff has also contributed synth to several other bands, live and/or in the studio, ranging from a four year role in Wrekmeister Harmonies to guest appearances with diverse electronic, experimental and metal bands, including Brutal Truth, Consumer Electronics, Indian, Locrian and Plague Bringer.

Solotroff is now recording and performing tenebrous analog synth music as a solo artist, with renewed vigor and determination. His bass-heavy soundscapes have been said to unsettle some listeners and calm others. Additional recordings in this sequence are forthcoming.
