Mark Solotroff formed the band Intrinsic Action in 1984 and he's a founding member of Anatomy Of Habit and BLOODYMINDED. His other bands include The Fortieth Day, A Vague Disquiet, Ensemble Sacrés Garçons, and Nightmares. Anatomy of Habit return with their unique clanging voice of bitter resignation blended with grim resolve. This album was a slow growth: a bold gambit opening with such a long song, but by the time the album was over, I felt compelled to go back to the first song to experience what I missed before. I get a sense of layers and missed signs to unpack, which I am excited to do with more listens! As before, I relished the diversity of tones and instrumentation, coloring the crisp yet deadened vocals.

Anatomy of Habit expertly craft an enveloping and submerging emotional wash reminiscent of the best goth rock. I love the attention paid to metallic percussion: it adds not just an industrial vibe, but a kind of driving and grimly determined energy. It also really scratches my itch for different tones beyond the standard drum kit. Plus, the regular drum kit sounds great and the bass and guitar melodic lines, working with the weary goth vocals, tug at your heart strings. Top tier experimental!
